Parent Q's
Will the teens provide the books?
Yes. Our teens prepare books for their sessions based on the information you share about your child's reading preferences.
Can I sit in during my child's session?
Of course! In fact, we encourage you to sit in during your child's first session to meet the teen.
Is this program free?
Yes! Our fabulous teen volunteers help ensure that this program is provided at no cost.
Can I book a longer session?
We do not offer sessions longer than 30 minutes. However, by all means feel free to work out a schedule with the teen buddy and ask if they are willing to meet for a longer period of time!
Can I sign my child up to meet with multiple buddies?
Yes, you can! Our program is flexible and allows you to meet with multiple buddies until you find a perfect match for your child!
Where is the zoom code?
Your teen buddy is responsible for sending you the zoom code. If you do not receive this email, please contact us via email
Teen Q's
What are cohorts (and cohort leaders)?
When a teen joins the program, they are placed in a small group with other teens called a cohort. Cohorts provide teens with the opportunity to step up and become leaders in addition to providing a way for teens to exchange advice with other volunteers. Each cohort has a leader who facilitates communication between teens, help new teens adjust to our program, and is always there to support our teen volunteers.
How much experience is expected?
While experience is appreciated, it is not required. As long as you love reading and are eager to teach younger kids, we would love to have you as a teen leader. After joining, your cohort leader will help train you and pair you up with another experienced buddy so you can sit in on meetings until you feel comfortable enough to host one yourself!
The time you put into Leaders and Readers is up to you! All we ask is that you offer a 30 min time slot each week where a parent may choose to book a reading buddies session with you. For those who are interested and would like to put in more time, we also try to offer as many leadership positions as possible.
I'm pretty busy, how much time should I expect to commit?
How do the reading buddies sessions work?
As a general overview, we use a booking site called picktime, which easily allows parents to book appointments with you based on your availability. Once a parent has booked a session, you will be responsible for creating and sending them a zoom link. However, you are never alone! Your cohort leader is always there for questions and support.
