About Reading Buddies

The purpose of Reading Buddies is to connect kids to teens who will help them read. As a pair, they will go through different books based on interest and level to help the younger kid practice their reading. In addition to helping the kid improve their reading, this is a great way to foster an interest in reading, give kids something to do, help give parents some quiet time, and encourage bonds of friendship.

click on the buddy you're interested in and see when they're available
schedule a 30 min appointment
wait for the teen leader to email you back with the zoom code and confirmation
let us know at leadersandreaders.info@gmail.com if you do not receive an email

OR find a permanent buddy (button below)

fill out the google form
wait for us to contact you with your permanent buddy's info
work out a schedule with your permanent buddy for when to meet - typically is a consistent session once a week (as opposed to booking a 30 minute session every time you'd like to meet using picktime)

reach out with any questions/concerns!

Please respect your teen buddy's time

we ask that you refrain from scheduling two consecutive 30 min sessions with a teen, unless you have discussed extending your appointment
please show up on time-if you fail to show up within 10 minutes of the appointment starting time, the teen may end the meeting

Seeking New Buddies

Ben Sophomore at Woodside Priory School Available some weekdays and early to mid afternoon PST I'm from England but have lived here for many years. I'm patient, kind, positive, and enthusiastic. I've always had a passion for reading and am thrilled to have the opportunity to join the reading buddy program. I love all sorts of books, including fantasy novels.	Maulik Junior at Los Altos High Available Sunday afternoons Maulik loves reading and hopes to share that love with younger kids. He's helped other with reading at his own high school, his local elementary school, and even overseas as a volunteer teacher in Nepal. He can't wait to read with you!	Layla Sophomore at Woodside Priory School Weekdays 3:15-4:30pm, Saturday and Sunday afternoons Layla has loved everything from fantasy stories to nonfiction for as long as she can remember. Being dyslexic, she knows firsthand the value of individualized reading support and would love to help kids learn to love reading at their own pace with books that inspire them. When she's not reading or listening to a great audiobook she spends her time playing basketball and getting outside.	Tina Senior at Woodside Priory School Available Mon, Wed, Thur, Sat from 3:30-5pm Tina used to work with reading partners in her elementary school and middle school. She loves spending time with kids and is excited to be part of this program. She loves reading manga; some of her favorite genres are sci-fi, fairy tale, mystery, and thriller. Tina is also a great listener and is very patient. She is very eager to bring her passion into this program.
Cici Junior at Woodside Priory School Available Mon-Thur afternoon (usually 4pm- 6pm) Cici is patient with kids and is willing to help and teach kids more. She also has a variety of hobbies and a lot of experiences of traveling to other countries. She would love to share them out and is very excited to work with kids!!	Nate Senior at Woodside Priory School Available Saturday and Sunday from 8am-noon (PST) Nate is very open to all sorts of genres of books and loves meeting other students regardless of grade. He is not the fastest nor comprehending (on the first try) reader ever, but is persistent. Gets along with others easily and always tries to have fun!	Adelyn Sophomore at Woodside Priory Available Mon-Wed and Thurs-Sun afternoons and evenings Adelyn is an avid reader and loves to connect with her friends and classmates about the meaning behind passages, as well as the different characters, elements and storylines portrayed in the novels. She is looking forward to sharing that connection with other kids and is excited to introduce many of her favorite childhood books with them!	Amy Senior at Galileo High School Available Thursday to Friday 7:30-9:30pm and Saturday to Sunday 10am-2pm Amy loves to read and write stories of her own and is hoping to spread her love of reading to others too. She is currently working at the San Francisco Recreation and Park after-school program and desire to demonstrate her skills and passion of working with children.
Nick Junior at Galileo Academy Available Monday-Tuesday from 4-6PM; Wednesday-Thursday 3-6PM; Weekends at any time Nick has a friend who didn't learn to read until 3rd grade. Because of this, he would like to make it his goal to help as many kids as possible to be able to read and to do it at a higher level. He has tutored his classmates for years, so he's learned to be very patient.

Calissa Senior at Los Altos High Calissa has developed a passion for reading over the years and would like to share that with younger students who also like to read! She is a responsible and caring teen who looks forward to working and reading with your kid(s)!	Emily Senior at Northgate High School Available Fridays and Saturdays Emily loves to read, write, and work with kids. To be able to spread her love for reading and the wonders of stories told through paper and ink (or even digitally) is something she is passionate about. She is patient, friendly, responsible, and loves to inspire people. She can't wait to spread her passion and love for reading with your kids!	Ella Senior at Los Altos High Available Sunday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons Ella has been volunteering with little kids for a couple of years now and has a little brother herself. She enjoys the time she gets to spends with little kids and is eager to share the exciting world of books with others!	Sam Senior at Los Altos High Available Mon-Fri Mornings, Saturday early Afternoons, and Sunday Mornings Sam has always enjoyed story-telling and reading and is excited to be a part of Leaders and Readers. He has read to his younger brother and sister, and is eager to do the same with other kids!
Isabel Senior at Los Altos High Available weekends and Tues/Thurs Isabel is an active leader and volunteer. She is a part of SCL(school leadership), NCL, and other programs. She loves to read and help others. Isabel is excited to grow her skills in this program. She can't wait to work and read with your students!	Cammy Cammy is a Senior at Galileo High School who has always had a love for reading, whether it be novels, manhwas, etc etc. She hopes to inspire younger students to read and find enjoyment in it. Other than reading, she also enjoys exploring astrology, listening to music, and going out with friends.	Jennifer Senior at Los Altos High School Available weekends Jennifer has worked with kinder and first grade buddies through school. She loves reading and is eager to share this passion!	Sylvie Senior at Los Altos High School Available Wednesdays and Saturdays Sylvie adores working with children and would love to share the magic of diving into a story with young readers!
Anika Senior at Los Altos High School Ever since she was little, Anika has known that she wanted to be a teacher when she grew up. Some of her favorite book genres are fantasy, young adult fiction, and historical fiction.	Ally Senior at Imagine Prep Surprise Experience includes volunteering in elementary classrooms and working on beginning reading skills with younger brother. Also has experience working with disabled students. Ally loves to read and is passionate about helping others! She is patient, compassionate, and has a love for learning.	Josephine Senior at Los Altos High School When she was younger, Josephine wasn't the most enthusiastic about reading, but as time flew by she found reading extremely enjoyable. She wants to help kids do the same and develop a love for reading. She has experience working with reading buddies and is ecstatic to resume again!	Katie Senior at Los Altos High Katie has always loved to read. She helped her sister read when she was younger and wants to spread the joy of reading!

Jacky Senior at Woodside Priory School Since her first reading session in July 2020, she has seen shy kids become upbeat readers who share her enthusiasm for books. She finds all her experiences working with kids to never fail to be cheerful and rewarding ones. Some of her other interests include soccer, climbing, choir, and science.	Irene Senior at St. John Paul II Availability varies based on your child’s needs. In her free time, she opts to tutor a range of students in French. She loves working with younger children but does great with any age. When working with Irene, there is no rigid schedule as she will adapt to your child’s preferences.	Hanna Senior at Los Altos High Available Saturdays, every other Tuesday, and Fridays Hanna has worked with kids for years, especially with helping her younger sister learn to read. She is a very avid reader and would love to share her passion with the younger kids!	Jihyun Grade 10 student at CDNIS Available on Wendesday, Friday and the weekends (HKT) Jihyun is extremely excited to be part of this program! She once had the opportunity in her school to be able to have Reading Buddies, and ever since, she started to love the experience! She loves to play tennis and is learning netball.
Eleana Sophomore Available Weekdays after 3:45 and all day on weekends Eleana loves to read to kids and reads for her little sister all the time! She's patient, kind, and speaks very clearly. She's done something similar before for community service, and she loved it!	Dia 8th grader at Bullis Charter School Dia has always kept reading in a special place in her heart and is very thrilled to be a part of this program. Dia has worked with her younger brother and taught him to read and is very excited to share her passion with other kids!	Abby Senior at Los Altos High School Available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays Throughout her life, Abby has enjoyed working with kids by being a camp counselor, a preschool leader at her church, and interacting with her younger cousins. She is a responsible, kind, and hardworking teen who is excited to work with your kids!	Alexandra Senior at Archbishop Mitty High School Alexandra will do her best to make learning fun and educational. She is very patient and will help each kid learn at their own pace!
Alyssa Senior at Los Altos High School Alyssa loves reading during her free time and would love to share that passion with younger kids! She does have experience reading to children and is looking forward to meeting and bonding with your kid(s)!	Aria Senior at Castilleja Aria loves talking to and becoming friends with younger kids. She has had experience reading to kids with her younger cousins and really enjoyed hanging out with them!	Aurora Senior at West Geauga High School Available Weekends 9-12 am EST Aurora is a huge fan of reading and excited to start working with this organization! She has experience working with her younger brother with his reading and with her mom who is also a teacher. She is super thrilled to meet and teach new kids everywhere!	Austin Senior at Los Altos High Austin has always loved reading and is excited to be in this program. He is flexible with any way to read and would love to socialize. Works best with talkative kids
Dylan Senior at Los Altos High School Dylan loves reading fiction and fantasy books and loves helping young children develop a passion for reading. He is also an avid singer and runner. Works best with kids who are enthusiastic to learn.	Iyshly Senior at Abraham Lincoln High School Iyshly loves working kids and story-telling. She has two younger siblings and always helps them with reading whenever she can. She’s excited and can’t wait to read with your child!	Lucy Senior at Los Altos High School Lucy has always loved to read to people ever since her dad read Harry Potter to her. She is excited to take part in this program and learn more about reading to others. She has worked with kids before (babysitting, etc) and is excited to share all the things she has learned in this program.	Rachel Senior at Walt Whitman High Rachel has always had a love for reading, which was primarily sparked by her parents. She feels that this program combines her interests in volunteering, mentoring, and reading very well. Rachel would love to pay it forward and help the next generation develop a love for reading! She enjoys talking to children, and is excited to be a patient, encouraging mentor to young readers during her summer!
